Our Visit in 2019

Our team visited The Residence Falhumaafushi and The Residence Dhigurah in 2019. The Residence Falhumaafushi, an older island, underwent renovations during the COVID years, while The Residence Dhigurah opened its doors in 2019 with all villas featuring private pools. Connected by a long and scenic bridge, guests can enjoy a sunrise stroll or cycle along the bridge to immerse in the beautiful sunset. A nearby castaway island offers a quiet retreat. Guests on both islands can enjoy facilities on either island, with Dhigurah’s large kid’s club being a highlight for families, including sessions to teach children how to climb coconut trees. The Residence, a Singaporean brand, is well-known for its exceptional service and food.

The Residence Falhumaafushi

Compared to Dhigurah, The Residence Falhumaafushi is a smaller island that offers a more intimate and cozy atmosphere, which we absolutely loved. The Water Pool Villas are exceptional, boasting expansive sizes and providing a unique over-water experience. From our villas, we had easy access to swim directly to the vibrant house reef.

The Residence Dhigurah

The Residence Dhigurah is an exclusive resort featuring private pool villas. We were impressed by the modern, luxurious design of the villas, accented with warm touches. The kids’ club at this resort is vast and comprehensive, making it a perfect choice for families.

House Reef

Located far from the international airport, The Residence Maldives boasts a vibrant house reef. The shared, lively house reef offers stunning multi-hued coral reefs and rich underwater biodiversity. We highly encourage guests to take the dolphin cruise, which offers a high chance of spotting dolphins. During our visit, we saw dolphins before even leaving the dock and encountered hundreds throughout the cruise, topped off with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine on the return ride. This experience was a highlight, and we highly recommend it.

Sustainability Efforts

As part of the resort’s sustainability efforts:

Earth Basket: Join the Earth Basket tour to learn about the cycle of farming, including plant nursery and garden tours, animal feeding, compost making, and herbal garden tours. Taste herb-infused beverages and pick your own harvests from the Earth Basket vegetable garden, discovering local edible plants with the chef.
Seagrass: At The Residence Dhigurah, a patch of seagrass is maintained as part of sustainability efforts, providing shelter and a home to many turtles. You can easily spot turtles having their breakfast in the morning.

Facilities

Between the two properties, guests have access to double the amenities for a perfect Maldives vacation. The Spa by Clarins offers overwater spa suites and relaxing massages at reasonable prices. The fitness centers on both islands are well-equipped, and bikes are provided to all guests for easy island exploration. For those who prefer not to bike, buggy stops are available throughout the islands.

Snorkeling gear is complimentary for the duration of your stay, and we highly recommend exploring the beautiful reef along the overwater bungalows. The hotel hosts weekly events such as themed dinners and movie nights on the beach, which are not to be missed.

Dining

Occasionally, the resort offers promotions with free upgrades to an all-inclusive meal plan. The food is a standout feature, offering a wide variety of cuisines, including Western, Indian, Maldivian, Korean, and Chinese dishes. With different themes each night, there are options for both vegetarians and meat-eaters. Our favorite themes were the Indian/Maldivian cuisine nights, featuring chefs cooking made-to-order dishes in the traditional method.
